Common Sense Media Reviewers

Director Fred Wolf doesn't have a long filmography to judge his career by, but this isn't an auspicious calling card. Perhaps the most appalling aspect of the movie is not its penchant for recycled pratfalls and dumb blonde humor, but its sanctimonious and sentimental climax. The shameless manipulation of this misguided scene is more likely to trigger the gag reflex than tug at the heartstrings.

The Zetas then feel guilty and decide to give themselves a second makeover, this time being "Half-Shelley and Half-Themselves". They also decide to draw the pledges out at random instead of judging them for their looks and popularity. They show up at Shelley's photo shoot and ask for her to come back, to which she agrees, having changed her mind about her dream of being a centerfold. Tyson Ritter — Emma Stone felt for Tyson Ritter in “The House Bunny,” marking the singer’s first acting role not playing himself or in a music video. Rumer Willis — The daughter of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis, Rumer Willis played Joanne in “The House Bunny.” Her character fractured her spine but, when it healed, was too afraid to take off her back brace. Willis starred in 2020’s hit “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” and is currently expecting her first child.

Shelley is living a carefree life until a rival gets her tossed out of the Playboy Mansion. With nowhere to go, fate delivers her to the sorority girls from Zeta Alpha Zeta. Unless they can sign a new pledge class, the seven socially clueless women will lose their house to the scheming girls of Phi Iota Mu. In order to accomplish their goal, they need Shelley to teach them the ways of makeup and men; at the same time, Shelley needs some of what the Zetas have - a sense of individuality.

Directed by Fred Wolf and written by Kirsten Smith and Karen McCullah Lutz, you probably remember The House Bunny as the Playboy sorority movie. After getting kicked out of the Playboy mansion for being too old at the ripe age of 27, Shelley (Anna Faris) has to find a new place to live. Through a series of misunderstandings and parade of college girls, Shelley finds herself on the doorstep of Zeta Alpha Zeta house, the lowest-ranked sorority on campus that’s in danger of having its charter pulled. The only thing that can save Zeta and the home these misfit young women love is if the sorority recruits 30 new members.

Shelley Darlingson is an aspiring Playboy Playmate living the life of luxury in the Playboy Mansion with Hugh Hefner. The day after her 27th birthday, she awakes to find a note, seemingly from Hefner, asking her to pack up and leave. The note is later revealed to be a forgery by jealous rival Playmate Cassandra.

The actress talks about taking on this very different role, working with Woody Harrelson, Thor and more. A modern re-telling of "Snow White" and sort of a response to "Sydney White", a story of a psuedo-princess cast out and taken in by 7 societal misfits. The film was released on DVD and Blu-ray on December 19, 2008.[16] It was also released in a 6-movie collection called The Laugh Out Loud Collection with other Happy Madison films in 2013. Hugh Hefner — Obviously, it’s impossible to make a movie about a Playboy bunny — even a fictional one — without Hugh Hefner.

Alas, a scheming member of Hef's bevy of busty beauties wants the staple for herself and orchestrates Shelley's ouster from the Mansion. Facing the loss of their charter and house, the Zetas are in dire need of pizzazz. So Shelley gives the girls makeovers, organizes a blow-out party, and generally acts as Fairy Godmother to these Cinderellas. One might assume that a film featuring Hugh Hefner, the Playboy Mansion, and a centerfold photo shoot would be enough to guarantee an R-rating. However, because the distributor demanded a PG-13, The House Bunny limits its sexual references to innuendo and the only nudity is a quick shot of a body-double's backside. And is Hugh Hefner so desperate for publicity that he can't resist being a party to this?

It’s about these young adults learning to recognize and ultimately embrace something they cannot achieve on their own — their own brand of femininity and sexuality. By the end of the film each of these young women finds her own middle ground, somewhere between Shelley’s push-up bra creation and their own individuality. All of these pink-lined makeovers help these women find themselves rather than mask them, much like a raunchier version of Legally Blonde. At a time when so many filmmakers are attempting to do new and interesting things with comedies, a forgettable throw-back like this is intolerable. There's not a single fresh idea or moment present in the entire movie, and watching the predictable comedy unfold is like hearing your uncle tell the same old jokes (that weren't that funny to begin with) for the dozenth time.

That’s when Shelley with her all-pink wardrobe, luscious blonde hair, and bubbly personality decides what she needs to do. She needs to become the Zetas house mom and save these girls from themselves. The film stars Faris, Colin Hanks, and Emma Stone, and tells the story of a former Playboy bunny who signs up to be the "house mother" of an unpopular university sorority after finding out she must leave the Playboy Mansion. More comedies need to take a page out of Shelley’s weird and pink diamond encrusted notebook.

Shelley isn’t a genius by anyone’s standards, but she understands people and always remains optimistic and supportive throughout the lowest moments in her privileged life. Much like the sisters of Zeta Alpha Zeta themselves, she exudes sisterhood. And though she may get carried away often, it’s clear that what Shelley and her big heart ultimately want is for these young women to be happy and confident with themselves. In essence, The House Bunny is Revenge of the Nerds with girls, although, by comparison, the quality of this production makes that of the 1984 feature seem like the work of the Royal Shakespeare Company.

The House Bunny deserves credit only for reminding viewers what it's like to lose two hours of one's life and get nothing in return. One of the reasons that Revenge of the Nerds is such a classic college comedy is that the guys don't change. They prove themselves worthy of popularity (and love) despite being nerds. It's sad that two decades after Gilbert, Lewis, and Booger proved that nerds are cool, these girls have to resort to objectifying stereotypes to save their sorority.

Owen Wilson or Seth Rogen does something wacky while a disapproving nag of a girlfriend — probably played by an actress who deserves better like Anne Hathaway or Rachel McAdams — frowns in the corner. But there’s one 2008 comedy that deserves far more than its rude 43 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The House Bunny is a funny and genuinely heartfelt examination of sisterhood, and in honor of Anna Faris’ birthday it deserves a re-evaluation. The House Bunny opens in the Playboy Mansion, with bunny Shelley (Anna Faris) dreaming not of Prince Charming but of a shot at becoming Miss November.

The House Bunny has a screenplay written with ten-year olds in mind about a subject that deserves an R-rating. The resulting hodgepodge of unfunny, sophomoric humor and PG-13 T&A, frosted by a sheen of appallingly nauseous "drama," makes for such a noxious brew that it's amazing viewers stay in their seats for the entire production. Then again, it takes absorption of the full 100 minutes for the movie's vomit-inducing power to become evident.

Often Faris will breathlessly misunderstanding an innuendo before deftly pulling a comedic 180, growling, cursing, and pratfalling in increasingly more ridiculous ways. It’s both sides of Faris’ lovely, vulgar brand of comedy wrapped up in one tube top-wearing role. In the United States, it is currently more popular than Whiteout but less popular than One Missed Call. Phi Iota Mu intercepts the invitations and prevents them from being mailed out, so the Zetas are again in danger of being shut down at the campus meeting of the Panhellenic Council. Oliver and Shelley reconcile, and Shelley explains that she likes Oliver a lot and was trying too hard to impress him. They decide to start over with their relationship and Oliver is looking forward to getting to know the "real" Shelley.

Admittedly, the PG-13 makes sense because it's impossible to conceive of an adult finding anything in this film palatable, never mind entertaining. The House Bunny has always been a more complicated film than we give it credit for, especially when held under 2018’s lens. Its blatant sexualization and “boys will be boys” attitude toward the male-driven institutions of power are so pronounced, they cross into satire. But even in the movie’s darkest moments, it’s Shelley’s endearing embrace of sisterhood that stands out. The House Bunny is far from a perfect movie, but it deserves way more than the eye roll we’ve given it.

The combination leads all the girls to learn how to stop pretending and start being themselves. It would have been easy to turn this movie into cruel mockery of women for 97 minutes. Broad comedies aren’t great to women, especially college-aged women, historically. But though The House Bunny was happy to deliver predictable jokes about dumb blondes, manipulative women, and of course Playboy bunnies it always had heart underneath those cheap laughs. The House Bunny isn’t a story about a group of women transforming into Stepford sorority girls, though that certainly does happen in its first act.

Beverly D’Angelo — Every movie needs a villain, and in “The House Bunny,” that was Beverly D’Angelo. D’Angelo most recently starred alongside David Harbour in “Violent Night,” the surprise Christmas hit of 2022. We go on the Santa Clarita set of the new ABC Family TV show based on the popular film. The network has added six new dramas and six new comedies to their lineup, and they have also pushed the comedy 30 Rock to a midseason debut. Miles Teller stars in this comedy about a 21st birthday that gets wildly out of control the night before the birthday boy's big job interview.

One wonders if there's a special place in hell reserved for filmmakers who foist this kind of tripe on the public. The film released in 2008 and, you might remember, had a pretty stacked cast. So, let’s look back on where they’re at these days, after their time in the Zeta house.

Having gotten a makeover and lessons on how to attract guys and be popular, the Zetas throw a party, which is a huge success. Later, the Zetas are reviewing the girls who are hoping to pledge to Zeta. Lilly, a British Zeta sister with social anxiety, says their new popularity has made them conceited and forget the true value of sisterhood. When they realize what they have become, they blame Shelley—just as she returns from her unsuccessful date. The actress plays Nicole in this outrageous college comedy about a 21st birthday celebration that's gone out of control, on Blu-ray and DVD June 18th. More than any other actress, Faris is an expert at playing funny, wide-eyed, and clueless princesses, but The House Bunny capitalizes on her grittier side as well.

Screen printing is a popular technique for t-shirt designs and offers vibrant colors and durability. However, it may pose challenges when it comes to complex designs or fine details on smaller sizes. Ensure that the intricacies of your design are achievable through screen printing and won’t be compromised on smaller-sized t-shirts.

Logo Placement Guide: Most Popular Placements

The design of the T-shirt is extremely well-known but it’s hardly a single, standard cut that is used across the board. Choose the type of fit you want based on the overall look you want. Placing a detailed graphic might seem intimidating, especially when the design features a variety of elements surrounding a central graphic. You can then select the object using a marquee tool and drag it to where the guidelines meet.

You won’t wear the same shirt size in the UK as you do in the U.S. If you have a shirt that already fits your toddler well, measure this garment instead of trying to measure the toddler because the shirt will be able to sit still for you! Measure the shirt for length from the top of the shoulder seam to the bottom of the hem. Measure across the bottom, about an inch above the hem, and across the chest just under the armholes to get a width measurement. All shirts aren’t made to look the same or fit the same way, not even when it comes to T-shirts.

Heat transfer printing involves transferring designs onto t-shirts using heat and pressure. While it can produce high-quality results, it may have limitations when it comes to larger-sized designs. Ensure that the heat transfer method you choose can accommodate the size of your design without compromising its integrity or visual appeal. Direct-to-garment (DTG) printing is a digital printing technique that allows for detailed and full-color designs. It works well for designs of all sizes, including intricate artwork or small text. DTG printing offers flexibility and precision, making it suitable for t-shirt designs across various sizes.

You need to know about these requirements before you decide on a print provider, and more importantly before you start designing the image. Your brand colors, if possible, and your target audience will guide the creative treatment of your t-shirt design. A t-shirt promoting a local coffee shop will have a drastically different color scheme and font style than a t-shirt promoting love. Think about the psychology around the colors you choose for your t-shirt and ensure they align with your t-shirt’s purpose and audience. A thoughtfully designed t-shirt doesn’t have to be in-your-face bold and full of colors. By keeping the purpose and target audience in mind, you’ll be halfway there to a great t-shirt design.

Shirt Design Sizing and T Shirt Placement Guide

If you are using a non-vector image, altering the size can lead to a change in the dots per inch, or DPI. Increasing the size will decrease DPI, the resolution will also decrease and the image will appear blurry or pixelated when printed on the T-shirt. Whereas, decreasing the size will increase DPI, which means higher resolution so your image can appear clearer.

To measure the sleeve length, start from the shoulder bone and measure down to the desired endpoint, such as the wrist or a specific point on the arm. This measurement is crucial for achieving the desired sleeve length and overall aesthetic of the t-shirt design. This is where most folks want their designs to sit, right smack in the middle of the chest. If you’re going this route, you’re looking at a design that’s about 10 to 12 inches in width. If you’re designing for a kiddo or someone petite, you might wanna scale that down a bit. Have you ever worn a T-shirt and thought, “Man, this design is just… off?

Unisex sizing charts are designed to cater to both men and women, providing a gender-neutral approach. They typically include measurements for chest width, shoulder width, and t-shirt length. Unisex sizing charts are useful when creating t-shirt designs that appeal to a broader audience or when targeting a specific niche that prefers gender-neutral clothing options. Understanding t-shirt sizes is the key to ensuring your customers find the ideal fit, enhancing their overall shopping experience.

Proportional scaling is crucial when designing for different t-shirt sizes. It involves adjusting the size of design elements, such as graphics or logos, to maintain visual balance and proportion. Ensuring that design elements are appropriately scaled across different sizes helps maintain a cohesive and aesthetically pleasing look. Font choices play a significant role in the overall design aesthetic. When creating t-shirt designs for different sizes, consider using fonts that are legible and visually appealing across various dimensions.

The solid rocket boosters have not yet arrived at the Science Center, and are being stored at another location. Once the building housing Endeavour is completed, additional aircraft and spacecraft will be moved in, and museum officials are still working out how long that will take. There will be three multilevel galleries in the aerospace wing — one each for air, space and the shuttle — that’ll cover four floors. Beach House has explored similar themes of introspection, longing, and existential questions in many of their other songs.

The new aerospace museum wing is named for Samuel Oschin, the late Los Angeles businessman and philanthropist, whose name is also on the Griffith Observatory planetarium and the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center cancer institute. Financial contributions that came from the Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Oschin Family Foundation have been transformational to getting the new museum built, museum officials said. Most people who witnessed shuttle launches did so from a vantage point miles away, California Science Center President Jeffrey Rudolph said, rather than up close.

It encapsulates the band’s distinctive sound and resonates with fans on a deep emotional level, making it a beloved and memorable piece of their musical repertoire. Astronaut has the power to evoke a wide range of emotions in listeners. Its melancholic and introspective nature often elicits feelings of sadness, longing, and existential questioning.

Although the amenities are modest, it's a relaxing, hidden retreat for crew members to enjoy time with their spouses and host pre-flight barbeques. In its early days, the Beach House could accommodate overnight stays by the astronaut. In the Apollo Era, the Beach House was known as the Astronaut Training and Rehabilitation Building. At that time, crew members were able to stay overnight in the building, but that quickly changed.

Space shuttle vet Robert Springer (who flew missions in 1989 and 1990) recalled that he and his crewmates used to borrow the key from a NASA staff member. One day, payload specialist Samuel Durrance waltzed over with some colleagues — but forgot to give the administrators any advance notice. Partnering up with the Army Corps of Engineers, NASA bought the entire development in 1963 for $31,500 (a little more than $266,800 in today's dollars).

Tracks like “Space Song,” “Myth,” and “Lazuli” also delve into the complexities of human emotions and the search for meaning. While the exact inspiration behind the lyrics of Astronaut may only be known to the members of Beach House, it is believed to draw from the band’s own experiences and emotions. The introspective nature of the song suggests a personal reflection on themes of isolation, longing, and the human desire for meaning. The haunting melodies and ethereal vocals create a melancholic atmosphere, adding to the emotional depth of the song. It evokes a sense of introspection and introspective reflection, allowing listeners to delve into their own thoughts and emotions.

Astronauts are driven, disciplined, physically fit and trained to solve complex problems in high-stakes situations. Sometimes, they just want to get away from it all — from the press, the physicians and the rigors of flight prep. The Astronaut Beach House is a two-story house built in 1962 as a part of the then Neptune Beach subdivision at Cape Canaveral, Florida.

Despite the fact that the building has been little used since the shuttle program was discontinued in 2011, KSC director Robert Cabana tells Irene Klotz at Discovery News that the structure will be repaired. Part of the reason no other museum has displayed a space shuttle or Saturn V rocket vertically is the enormous cost and technical difficulty in doing so. The iconic building will continue to serve as a conference center for workers and a quiet retreat for Astronauts. NASA’s iconic beach house has long served as a peaceful place for astronaut’s to spend time with their families. Sitting about 50 meters from the Atlantic, between SLC-40 and SLC-41, it offers a beautiful view and some quiet isolation. The Beach House is also where 14 Astronauts said their final goodbyes to their families.

Neighboring houses and a gas station were cleared away, but this Plain Jane cottage escaped the wrecking ball. One piece of real estate was a two-story beach house constructed in 1962. Really, it was just another wood-framed building in the Neptune Beach subdivision — at first. Southern California played a crucial role in the shuttles’ development, which pumped hundreds of millions of dollars into the economy and became a source of pride for the region’s aerospace industry. The 15-story orange external fuel tank arrived in 2016, on a journey by sea through the Panama Canal and into Marina del Rey, before also lumbering through the streets to the Science Center.

Jake Gyllenhaal, at UFC 285, films 'Road House' remake Los Angeles Times

road house remake trailer

With the movie still at such an early stage, there is no information about a release date yet, and 20th Century Studios has yet to announce anything. In terms of spin-offs, it inspired a sitcom (starring Rita Moreno), ‘Nine to Five’ that ran for five seasons in the 1980s, while a 2008 Broadway musical (with music and lyrics by Parton), earned four Tony nominations. Yes, the film is often every bit as silly as that synopsis sounds.

Road House is a remake of the 1989 film starring Patrick Swayze. As noted on IMDb, it may not matter in the end, as his attachment to the project is very much a rumor at present. Either way, we'll be quick to update this page the moment Gyllenhaal's, or any other actor's casting in "Road House," is confirmed. The movie's title is emblazoned across the top of the poster in blue neon tube light script. A figure can be seen lying on the floor of the bar behind Dalton, as well as a "3 simple rules" poster, a reference to Dalton's three rules in the original film. The film appears to have some similarities with the Swayze, mainly Dalton being a fighting machine working at a roadhouse.

Casting

The action-packed trailer features a bar fight, boat explosion and car crash as Dalton fends off several antagonists in his new Florida life. Back in March of 2023, Gyllenhaal was seen filming scenes for the movie during a UFC 285 mixed martial arts event in Las Vegas. Described as an “adrenaline-fueled reimagining" of the "cult classic,” “Road House” follows ex-UFC fighter Dalton (Gyllenhaal) after he takes a job as a bouncer at a Florida Keys roadhouse. However, once he’s there, he discovers that this paradise is not all it seems. In the trailer, which is nearly two and a half minutes of nonstop knockouts, Gyllenhaal leads as Elwood Dalton, an ex-UFC middleweight fighter who takes one too many hits, and it’s not clear he can — or wants to — get back up. He’s living out of his beat-up car and participating in underground fighting rings when he’s found by Jessica Williams‘ bar owner, who invites him to come work for her.

He takes a bus to Frankie's establishment, called simply The Road House, and befriends Charlie, a teenager who runs a bookstore with her father, Stephen. Those of you who didn't come of age in the eighties, and have somehow managed to not see "Road House" on cable in the three decades since its release, might be wondering what all the fuss is about. Once there, Dalton finds the job tougher than expected as a sinister local magnate who controls most of town's business doings (Ben Gazzara) doesn't much like the way he operates. A hyper-violent intimidation campaign promptly ensues with Dalton and his new brawling barroom buddies facing off against a rogue's gallery of small-time hoods to keep their dreams of booze-house glory alive. A new trailer is here for "Road House", which stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Dalton in a remake of the 1989 classic starring Patrick Swayze.

In a mid-credits scene, Knox has survived and assaults the hospital staff, leaving in his gown. Stealing a bomb-laden motorboat to reach Brandt's catamaran yacht, Dalton finds him with the sheriff, who tells him the kidnapping was a lie to lure Dalton aboard. Tempers flare as Knox approaches in his boat, but Dalton detonates the motorboat and finds Ellie below deck, attempting to smash a window.

But it is rendered with such obvious affection and steadfast devotion by Swayze and everyone involved (particularly the rarely better Sam Elliott), it's all but impossible not to be won over by its charms. It remains to be seen how much of that original plot the reboot might include, but if it stays true enough to the original concept, the new "Road House" flick will undoubtedly prove every bit as fun. The original 1989 "Road House" similarly followed the life of a smooth bouncer played by Swayze.

While filming a weigh-in scene, Gyllenhaal flexed his muscles for the audience and got into a scripted, physical altercation with Hieron, who plays his rival in the action flick. Footage from the event shows Gyllenhaal staring down and swatting at Hieron as part of the intense sequence. They're reportedly looking to lock up a major name to direct the "Road House" reboot as well, with "The Bourne Identity," and "Edge of Tomorrow" helmer, Doug Liman, eyeing the director's chair. Of course, with the film's shooting script still not up to snuff, and its behind-the-camera talent still taking shape, it's anybody's guess when the "Road House" reboot will actually shoot, let alone when it will be released.

The 1989 movie centered on James Dalton, a professional "cooler," or bouncer, at a bar in a small town in Missouri. The new iteration appears to up the ante and bring in more action. The new film also stars Daniela Melchior, Billy Magnussen, Jessica Williams, Joaquim de Almedia, Lukas Gage, Arturo Castro, B.K. Cannon, Beau Knapp and Darren Barnet, plus MMA fighter Conor McGregor in his first-ever movie role. Troubled former UFC middleweight fighter Elwood Dalton makes a living scamming fighters on the underground circuit. He is approached by Frankie, the owner of an unruly roadhouse in the Florida Keys community of Glass Key, who offers him a job as head bouncer. Initially hesitant, Dalton takes up the offer after narrowly averting a suicide attempt with a freight train that destroys his car.

Rest assured, we'll let you know the second a release date is made official. As noted in that Deadline report, this is not the first time MGM has tried to reboot "Road House" for modern audiences. In fact, the studio was eyeing a gender-swapped version of the film a few years back as a vehicle for Olympic medalist, MMA champion, and professional wrestler Ronda Rousey. That version of the film never really took shape, however, and the current iteration looks to be a more straightforward remake of the original. While the film is likely a long ways from heading before cameras, it seems MGM is hot to get the production off the ground.

With reboot, remake, and reimagining mania continuing to sweep Hollywood, studios are starting to make some perplexing choices about which past hits are being resurrected for fresh runs at the multiplex. And as it is, many of the more perplexing cinematic revisits announced surround possible fresh takes on (or sequels) to 1980s hits like "Labyrinth," "The Great Outdoors," and "Highlander," (per ET Canada). Now, it seems you can add another classic eighties flick to that list, as Deadline is reporting a remake of Patrick Swayze's deliciously sleazy actioner "Road House" is now in the works.

It also features Arturo Castro, B.K. Cannon, Beau Knapp, Darren Barnet, Dominique Columbus and UFC fighter Conor McGregor in his first-ever film role. At the Road House, Dalton fends off a motorcycle gang working for local crime boss Ben Brandt and personally drives the injured thugs to the hospital, where he meets Ellie, a doctor who tends to his injuries. After an attempt on his life by gang leader Dell, Dalton finds him lying in wait at his houseboat.

The camera does have a rolling shutter, so we expected to see a bit of jello, but there wasn’t much of any. This makes the camera a good candidate for active shooting. Speaking of the battery, it’s a very common Canon EP-L6.

One issue around the older 6K camera was battery life from its Canon LP-E6 cells and you’d definitely need to carry a pocketful of them for day’s shooting day. The 6K Pro now uses Sony-fit NP-F batteries and also accepts an optional £138 battery grip that screws onto the bottom plate, once you remove a blanking plate there. This allows for two batteries, but makes the camera even bigger.

It can shoot UltraHD (3,840 x 2,160) and DCI (4,096 x 2,160) resolutions at 24, 30, and 60 frames per second. At the same time, there’s nothing proprietary to Blackmagic going on here. ProRes (a professional compressed format developed by Apple) and CinemaDNG (an open RAW video format spearheaded by Adobe) are industry standards. The ProRes files work flawlessly in Apple Final Cut Pro, while CinemaDNG sequences are natively supported in Adobe Premiere Pro, so you’re not forced to use Blackmagic software if you prefer not to.

It has a chunky, angular and wide body that’s larger than most DSLRs (and both the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K and 6K). At 1.238kg without a lens or accessories attached it’s fairly heavy too, but (and this is the key point) it’s still smaller, lighter and more portable than the vast majority of professional cinema cameras. It had lots of the bells and whistles that filmmakers like, but a couple of obvious omissions such as built-in ND filters and any sort of EVF. To get a viewfinder to fit meant an investment in an external EVF and some sort of rigging to fasten it to. That adds a lot of expense, hassle and takes up the HDMI output.

Like with most effects, the more data you have to work with, the better the tool works. Joey Knox talks about using the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K. ‘Mountain Bike’ is Joey’s test of the camera’s high speed performance. Mark Wyatt talks about using the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K.

I think this camera with its price category was made for the $700 Sigma 1835f1.8, I don't think a typical user of the $3500 Canon CN-E 24mm would go for a BM camera. Anyhow, yes EF mount is still relevant for manual focus photography, videography. E mount spec is available for licensing _if you are making lenses_. Witness how Sigma ended up licensing the L mount for their own mirrorless cameras, even though they already have a full lineup of E mount lenses. Bear in mind, every single adapter on the market -- including the overpriced Metabones, but especially Viltrox etc. -- has huge incompatibility problems with active lenses. Sometimes aperture control works or doesn't, sometimes lens I.S.

This is the cinema camera for the rest of us, but it remains very much a cinema camera. Its size and price — and use of the Micro Four Thirds mount — will naturally draw comparisons to hybrid mirrorless cameras like the Panasonic GH5S, but these are not direct competitors. Despite the accessibility, the BMPCC 4K is built for professional filmmaking workflows, and thus it may not suit the needs of the more casual user. You do not need any external recorder to shoot true 12bit RAW with the Sigma fp it records uncompressed 12bit RAW internally to a tiny SSD attached by usb (Samsung T5).

Second, what was most hated about the lcd screen was the fact that it was unreadable in sunlight, not hard to read, unreadable. Blackmagic was the first consumer camera with RAW video capability. Now some brands have full frames with RAW video capability. Good alternative, if you plan to get a gimbal and external monitor. The BM screen is a full 1920x1080 pixels, not dots as in most hybrid cameras. That's enough resolution for manual focus, with or without focus magnification.

Only problem is its Jumbo size & Weight, but ALL current video enabled cameras should have what this has. Oh, and its canon mount so will fit practically ANYTHING (like old manual Nikkors with an adaptor). The Blackmagic Pocket 6K Pro can record full 6K raw internally to CFast media cards. These have high-bit rates and large capacities for the most stable recording of extremely large files. However, because CFast cards are essentially tiny SSDs, they’re also very expensive.

This is one area where consumer mirrorless cameras often skimp. If you're not a video guy, why even comment on a video camera post, and even suggest there are better options if you don't know any. Incidentally I own the GH5s; it's not a better option than my Pocket 4K which offers superior codecs, punch in focus during recording, mini xlr and 120fps 2.7k. This new camera offers even more, a larger sensor, 6K, an extra mini xlr and internal ND.

The Pro model now has the fifth Generation colour science as the high-end Blackmagic cameras, which gives very realistic colours. The camera offers three different sorts of colour settings – from standard video through to much more filmic – and you can upload your own LUTs too. And thanks to the Dual Native ISO sensor, there is very low noise. Overall, the image quality is excellent, especially if you take the time to shoot Raw and grade it properly. Less conveniently, the grip adds even more heft to an already chonky body. It's not an insurmountable problem for studio shoots, but between the weight and the short battery life, this might not be the best run-and-gun camera.

Generally, these one-way sailings travel from Seward or Whittier (the cruise ports closest to Anchorage) to Vancouver (or vice versa).
